Sizzling First Impressions (Lot 88 Steakhouse & Bar)
A few nights ago, I had one of the most unique dining experiences at Lot 88 Steakhouse located in Pembina Highway. If you haven’t heard of this place yet, it’s the hot new spot in Winnipeg that will literally take your love for steak to a whole new level . This place isn’t your typical sit-down-and-wait-for-your-plate steakhouse. In this newly-opened restaurant, YOU get to be the CHEF.
When we walked in, the vibe was classy yet cozY, the dim lights, rich wood accents, and the mouthwatering smell of sizzling steak filled the air. And from that moment, I already knew we were in for something special.
The fun started when our server started to take our orders. Lot 88 is all about their signature hot stone dining experience. They serve you a perfectly cut piece of AAA Angus beef on a volcanic stone that’s been heated to 600°F. It’s up to you to cook each bite exactly how you like it.
I went with their sirloin cut (because I’m basic like that, but hey, it’s a classic for a reason!). Our server brought it out, raw but beautifully prepped, alongside the sizzling hot stone, a set of tongs, and some delicious sauces and seasonings.
I will not deny it, I was a bit nervous at first—what if I overcook it? But as soon as I placed the first piece on the stone and heard that satisfying sizzle, all my worries disappeared. Watching it cook right in front of me was mesmerizing. The smell? Absolutely divine!!!
I like my steak medium well, so I made sure to sear it enough on each side. It was like being on a fun mini cooking show at the table. I have to keep my meat slices on the stone a bit longer to get the right cook that I prefer. That’s the beauty of this—you can tailor every bite to your own taste.
Now, let’s talk about the sides! The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful, and the seasonal veggies had just the right crunch. The sauces? Chef’s kiss. My personal favorite was the peppercorn—it truly added a bold kick to the steak.
By the end of the meal, we were stuffed but still talking about how much fun it was. Dining at Lot 88 isn’t just about the food (although the food is AMAZING). It’s the experience—the sizzling stone, the interactive cooking, and the satisfaction of creating something perfect for yourself.
If you haven’t been yet, add this to your must-try list! Trust me, it’s a dinner you’ll never forget.
UPDATE (January 2025) We are looking for a place to have dinner to celebrate my youngest daughter’s birthday and I thought of Lot 88 and I was surprised to see that Google indicated that it was PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
