1,000 Days

It’s been 1,000 days since we had our passports stamped by the Immigration Officer when we entered Vancouver Airport…

It’s been 33 months since we set foot in the cold grounds of Winnipeg Airport…
It’s almost 3 years since we started this journey!
How time really flies it seems like it was just yesterday when we came to the winter capital of Canada (hahaha!)…. Even if I am saying that it seems that it was just yesterday when we moved here, the feeling is different.
To borrow a line from Lea Salonga’s song, “What a journey it has been!?!”
Just like a newly wed couple, our first year as an “immigrant” was like the honeymoon stage, where we are still enchanted and fascinated with the new experiences and with new things that we see and encounter . The second year here was the “getting-to-know” stage and in our case, we truly “knew” what life in Canada is. We learned new life’s lessons, we gained new friends, we encountered new experiences and we discovered the difference of living life here and in our hometown. Our third year was the “realization” stage… We realized that life is not always what you expect it to be. And once a decision was made, make sure that you made the right one, because your past decision is what puts you to the place where you are now.
Our First100 Days
I will not deny that there came a time that I doubted my decision to convinced my husband to move here. There were also moments that I worried about what tomorrow will bring to me and to my family… The what if’s, the what could be’s and the many possibilities worries me… But I have overcome this stage now and I looked at things differently now.
Here are a few events which I consider to be memorable and significant parts of our journey:
  1. April 2009 – We arrived in Winnipeg Canada
  2. June 2009 – Hubby got a (permanent) part-time, hourly-paid job.
  3. September 2009 – after giving up full time job in a government office, I got a part-time job.
  4. November 2009 – We rented a house.
  5. March 2010 – Hubby got promoted to a full-time, salaried position.
  6. September 2010 – We got our own house
  7. January 2011 – I went on Maternity Leave – yes, my 3rd child is a Canadian 🙂
  8. June 2011 – We started our first house project,  basement renovation (But this is going to be a longgg project)
  9. November 2011 – I got a full time job that is the field of my specialization.
I must admit,  it was not an easy journey, there were bumps along the way, there were crossroads and detours, but with God’s guidance, we made it through and as we continue with our  journey, I know there will be more trials that we will face  but I am more excited to anticipate the  success stories that  I will be able to share in my future posts.

Momsiecle

Momsiecle is short for Momsie's Circle. I started my first blog on a free blogging platform in 2006 as a just for fun blog. When my family and I moved to Winnipeg in 2009, I started to write about my challenges and discoveries about living in Canada as an immigrant. In 2012, I decided to make momsiecle.com a place to come for aspiring Canadian immigrants and for people who are embracing life in the “new world” that they are in.
